WASHINGTON - The United States has paid tributes to Abdul Sattar Edhi, the Pakistan philanthropist, as “one of the world’s great humanitarians.” “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Pakistani philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi on July 8th – one of the world’s great humanitarians,” State Department Spokesman John Kirby told reporters at the start of his daily Press briefing on Monday. “Edhi’s compassion, dignity, and humility serve as an example to us all,” Kirby said. “He led a life dedicated to serving others regardless of religion, class, nationality or ethnicity,” the spokesman noted.
