NOWSHEHRA - At least four persons were killed and 100 others injured on Friday when a suicide bomber hit a mosque with his explosive packed vehicle in the most sensitive area of Nowshehra. As per details, the suicide bomber rammed his pick-up, converted into an ambulance, into the boundary wall of the mosque located near Garrison Supply Depot immediately after Juma congregation. As a result of the incident, four persons were killed and around 100 others injured. The mosque collapsed instantly and several houses in the vicinity also caught fire. The NWFP Excise Minister Liaqat Shabab, District Police Officer Abdullah Khan and District Coordination Officer Rooh Ullah reached the site and supervised rescue operation. All the injured were later shifted to the Combined Military Hospital, Nowshehra. APP adds: DPO Nowshera Abdullah Khan told APP that initially three persons died and later one critically injured succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The roof of the mosque razed to ground due to high intensity of the blast and several worshipers were trapped under the debris. Rescue operation continued and debris were being removed with help of lifters and cranes but the process is very slow due to lack of equipment. Several vehicles parked in the vicinity were also destroyed while few women in the nearby hospital also sustained injuries. The windowpanes of the nearby buildings smashed into pieces and human flesh and blood were seen at scattered places in the mosque. The police and volunteers rushed to the site and started shifting the injured to CMH and DHQ hospital. Emergency was been declared in all district hospitals. Police and army personnel cordoned off the area and nobody was allowed to enter the mosque. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister NWFP Amir Haider Khan Hoti strongly condemned attack on innocent people in the mosque and termed it un-Islamic and inhuman. Expressing his deep shock and sorrow over the death of innocent lives in the deadly explosion, the Chief Minister ordered immediate inquiry of the incident and directed the hospital administration to provide full medical facilities to the victims. The elements involved in such kind of cowardice acts in mosques are in fact the enemy of humanity and religion and such kinds of coward acts could not deter the strong determination of government and people in the fight against militancy and terrorism. The Chief Minister vowed to wipe out terrorism with strong support of people. Attacks on mosques, he said, indicate that that the aim of miscreants and anti- state elements were to destabilise the country and create fears among the people. The Chief Minister expressed strong determination of his government to foil all such nefarious designs and conspiracies of anti-state elements and those throwing blood of innocent people could not be able to escape from the clutches of law. Amir Haider Khan Hoti appealed to people to remain clam and peaceful and assured that members of the bereaved families that they would not be left alone in this hour of lurch and tribulations. He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and for the early recovery of the injured.
