LAHORE (APP) - A total of 344 prisoners of Central Jail Kotlakhpat appeared in different examinations from middle level to Master of Arts. Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, Lahore Range, Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig told APP here Sunday that 8 convicts each have appeared in MA and BA exams of Punjab University while 58 in FA,81 in Matric and 30 in middle exam of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore while remaining in short duration exams. He said that during the last 8 years from 2003 till to date a total of 10359 prisoners took part in different exams of which 7052 passed while results of 350 prisoners who appeared in various 7 exams during current calender year are still awaited. He said a total of 3524 convicts were awarded special remission strictly in accordance with jail manual from two years to one month on successfully qualifying the exams which also includes 19 prisoners who memorised the Holy Quran by heart. He said that on the special directive of Chief Minister Punjab and Prisons Chief Kokab Nadeem Warraich,extraordinary focus has been laid to imparting quality education to inmates to make them useful citizen after their release. Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig said that all those prisoners interested in pursuing higher education were always facilitated. He said 750 convicts out of total of nearly 3832 are working in jail factory who are also entitled to special remission. He said special courses of Taleem ul Quran,Nazra Quran,Tarjamal Quran and Al-Lisanul Arabic besides Urdu Adeeb and Punjabi-Urdu Fazil are also being offered under the supervision of qualified teachers approved by the higher power board to all muslim convicts. About the security,he appreciated the Superintendent Jail,Mushtaq Ahmad Awan and Deputy Superintendent Abdul Razzaq Khan Niazi for fully ensuring foolproof security arrangements in and around the jail premises.
