Plan ready to cope monsoon contingencies

MUZAFFARGARH - District Muzaffargarh is situated between River Indus and Chenab River thats why it gets affected by flood. Keeping it in view, a plan has been prepared to avert possible threat of flood with the collaboration of the Health, Police and Education departments, Pak Army and other relevant departments as well as national and foreign NGOs, said DCO Tahir Khurshid Chaudhry while presiding over a meeting here on Sunday. Mr Tahir said that a control room had been established in the supervision of Assistant District Collector Zaffarul Islam Khattak office and all information regarding floods could be provided and disseminate from this room. He pointed out that the district had been divided into four Tehsil sectors and 22 law sectors. The in-charge of tehsil will be assistant commissioner and sub-sector in-charge will be revenue officer and each sub-sector will be consisted of the representatives of the Police, Livestock, Health, Education and Social Welfare departments. The DCO said that arrangements for setting up relief camps had been completed wherein all sort of facilities like food, medicines and other necessities of life would be made available. A chair committee has been constituted to provide budget and emergency funds which will be looked after by the EDO finance. Similarly, a central warehouse has been established at Govt Comprehensive School and the DRTA Secretary has been tasked with providing shelter to flood effectees. The DCO said that XEN of the Irrigation Department, the Assistant Commissioner, the Police DSP and Pak Army would look after rivers banks while to tackle any emergency, the teams of Rescue 1122, the Police and Pak Army and local volunteers had been put on alert. Tahir Khurshid also warned against any negligence, saying that stern action would be taken against corrupt and negligent officers. On the occasion, he also ordered removal of all illegal structure from rivers embankments. The participants of the meeting were informed that about 3 to 400,000 cusec of water could flow through Chenab while Indus Rive has the capacity of 5 to 600,000 cusec. On the occasion, DPO Rio Munir Zia said that the police personnel were working with the district management and were ready to tackle any emergency.
