Theft case filed against CDA chief

ISLAMABAD In a rare case of victimisation of top tier officials of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) including its Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, an FIR containing charges of theft and threat has been registered against them allegedly for not extending their support to illegally accommodating PPP 'Jialas in the civic agency. The case was lodged with Aabpara Police Station by PPP activists section 506/379 PPC against CDA officials including its Chairman, Member (Finance), Director DMA, Director Security, former Director HRD, CDA Spokesperson and 20 other unknown employees of the Authority. Above all, prior to the registration of the case, the police department even did not take permission from the higher authorities especially Secretary Establishment, that is stated to be mandatory in such cases. The FIR, that was registered at around 3pm on Sunday shows that aforementioned officials had threatened the participants of a protest camp established by the PPP workers in front of CDA Headquarters building and made away with three tents, water pots and rags. The saga started on June 6, when some party workers had established a camp outside the Headquarters building of the Authority that was frequently visited by some of the dubious local party leaders already enjoying bad reputation even in party circles and own hundreds of kiosks in the federal capital on political basis. Getting not enough in their own partys regime is stated by some as the main contention behind the episode. The move was backed by a local party leader Rizwan Qureshi nowadays enjoying his established links in Presidency, sources informed The Nation. Rizwan Qureshi has directed DIG Banni Amin to lodge FIR against said CDA officials excluding CDA Chairman, however, Banni Amin showing his loyalty included the name of Imtiaz in FIR, confided a PPP leader who had attended the protest camp. Talking to this scribe, Banni Amin contradicted the charges saying he was completely unaware of the development. How can I direct my subordinates to lodge FIR against CDA Chairman? Its a pack of lie, he added. Meanwhile, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Tariq Pirzada, who wanted to be Chairman CDA since long, also expressed his unawareness regarding involvement of Banni Amin in the whole saga, saying within some time a high level meeting to discuss the same issue would commence.
