Pakistan No 1 tennis player Aqeel Khan won the men's singles title of the 28th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championship after defeating his younger brother Yasir Khan in the final at Islamabad Club on Wednesday.

Aqeel Khan won the first set 7-6, as Aqeel got the first break of serve, but Yasir bounced back and immediately broke back Aqeel’s. The set was finally decided on the tiebreak which Aqeel managed to win 7-3 by hitting some forehands down the line passing winner. He was almost unplayable in the second set as he brushed aside Yasir and took the set 6-1. Aqeel had also won the doubles crown pairing with his brother Jaleel Khan. He got the cash prize of Rs 35,000 while Yasir Khan pocketed Rs 20,000 as the total cash prize of Rs 250,000 was distributed among the players.  Sarah Mahboob clinched the ladies singles crown by beating Sara Mansoor in the final. In the three-set thriller, former Pakistan No 1 Sarah Mahboob edged out current Pakistan No 1 Sara Manasoor 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Top seed M Mudassar annexed the boy's U-18 singles title as he eliminated second seed Arham Atiq in a nail-biter three-set final. Arham Atiq won the first set 6-2 by breaking sixth and eight game of his opponent. Mudassar changed the strategy and won the second set 6-3 by breaking eight game of Arham. The final set was marked with aces lobs and combination of forehand and backhand drives. The score went up to 4-4 as both the players held their respective services but Mudassar managed to break Arham’s by hitting some good forehand passing shorts and won the set 6-4. The match lasted two hours and 10 minutes.

In the senior 60+ doubles, Justice Ijaz Chaudhry/Laeeq Pirzada won the title by beating second seeds Mahboob Khan/Justice Ijaz Yousaf in a well contested three-set match 1-6, 6-2, 10-5. Former secretary communication M Sher Khan and Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) patron Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas were the chief guest and guest of honor on the closing ceremony and distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up.
