HAFIZABAD/ISLAMABAD - The Election Commission of Pakistan, while declaring the result for NA-103 Hafizabad void, ordered re-polling in the constituency as it upheld the objections raised by the losing PML-N candidate that the election had been marred by rigging.

The Election Commission also directed the Provincial Election Commissioner to get case registered under Section 89(1) of the Act and Pakistan Penal Code against the District Election Commissioner (DEC) and Presiding Officers (POs) who failed to seal the bags of polled votes and made glaring irregularities during the polling proceedings.

In May 11 Election Liaqat Ali Bhatti (Independent) was declared elected unofficially but the defeated PML-N candidate Shahid Hussain Bhatti filed a petition before the Election Commission of Pakistan, alleging various irregularities and requested for recounting of the polled votes. Consequently, the ECP ordered recounting of all the polled votes in NA-103. During recounting various irregularities were came to light and result of three polling stations could not be traced out by the Returning Officers. It was also came to light that the polled votes bags remained unlocked and unsealed for some days.

The Election Commission of Pakistan observed that the reports of the RO NA-103 and DRO Hafizabad speak for themselves about huge malpractices committed by the polling staff and the RO which are in gross violation of the provision of Act. It also observed by the ECP in its order issued Wednesday that the RO and the other staff attached with the AROs have failed to perform their duties in accordance with the Law. The ECP has declared void the election of winning candidate and declared the whole election in NA-103 null and void and ordered re-polling in the constituency.
