KARACHI - Nine people, including two MQM workers, were shot dead in separate acts of violence in Karachi on Wednesday.
An activist of MQM, namely Muhammad Hussain, a scrap dealer, was killed at his shop in Bilal Chowrangi area by unidentified gunmen riding a motorbike. The victim was an active worker of MQM’s Korangi unit.
Another MQM worker was gunned down near his residence in Orangi Town. Police said unidentified gunmen on a motorbike opened fire on Muslim Noor and fled. He was fatally wounded and was shifted to a hospital where doctors declared him as brought dead. The body was handed over to the heirs after autopsy. Following the killing of both MQM workers, commercial and non-commercial activities came to halt. Separately, a man, a school van driver, was mowed down near Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan. Police said the victim, Muzzamil Irsha, was detailing his vehicle when unidentified attackers on a bike targeted him and fled. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced as dead. The body was handed over to the heirs after autopsy. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained.
Meanwhile, a body was recovered from an abandoned place in Landhi area. Police said unidentified criminals had taken him captive and later killed him. The body was shifted to a morgue after autopsy where the victim was identified as Zeshan Fayyaz. His family said he went missing on Tuesday when he was on his way to workplace. Unidentified attackers on a motorbike killed a security guard of a private company, namely Naseer Abbas Bukhari. Another man Mohammad Bashir, 65, was also injured when their company van came under the attack near Naval Colony.
Separately, an unidentified man was shot dead near Northern Bypass. Police said unidentified armed men brought the man in a black car and after killing him escaped the scene. A policeman of Sindh Reserved Police was killed on Maripur Road in Kalri area. Identified as Ashfaq Mohammad, 31, the victim was targeted by an unidentified bike-borne duo when he on his way to his home on his bike.
In another incident, a woman and her daughter were killed inside their house in Lyari. The victims were identified as 45-year-old Nasreen, wife of Mohammad Siddique, and her daughter Shazia, 14. SHO Mohammad Tufail said the killer was nephew of Nasreen, adding that the dual murder was in the name of honour. The official further said the accused surrendered himself to the police.
