Islamabad - In a view to increase the economic activities in the country, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has enhanced the volume of Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) by 32 per cent for the upcoming financial year 2013-2014.

The government has allocated Rs 1,155 billion for PSDP for the next fiscal year, which is almost 32 per cent higher than the allocation made (Rs 730 billion) during the outgoing financial year 2012-13.

According to the details, out of the total development programme of Rs 1,155 billion, allocations for the federal PSDP have been proposed at Rs 540 billion against the current year’s Rs 360 billion showing an increase of 50 per cent. The provincial annual development plans (ADPs) for next year have been estimated at Rs 615 billion against Rs 513 billion allocated for the outgoing financial year registering an increase of 20 per cent.

In order to jump-start the sluggish economy, the new government has decided to increase the size of federal PSDP by 50 per cent, jack it from Rs360 billion in outgoing financial year to Rs 540 billion for the next budget. The government has allocated Rs 115 billion for new development initiatives likely the promises made by PML-N leadership in the election campaign.

According to the documents, the distribution of Rs 540 billion federal component of the PSDP in different ministries/divisions/organisations is: Rs 57.84 billion for the Water and Power Division (Water Sector); Rs 52.3 billion for the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission; Rs 2.179 billion for cabinet division, Rs 1.505.5 billion for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), Rs 58.8 million for climate change division and Rs 841 million for commerce division for next financial year 2013-14.

The government has allocated Rs 109 million for Communication Division (other than NHA), Rs 3.545 billion for Defence Division, Rs 2.3 billion for Defence Production Division, Rs 104 million for Economic Affairs Division, Rs 5.24 billion for Education and Training Division, Rs 79.4 million for Establishment Division, Rs 31.3 million for Federal Tax Ombudsman, Rs 13.074 billion for Finance Division, Rs 255 million for Foreign Affairs Division for the upcoming fiscal year 2013-2014.

Meanwhile, Rs 30.96 billion has been allocated for the Railway Division; Rs 2.172 billion for the Science and Technology Research Division; Rs 533.3 million for Revenue Division, Rs 18.5 billion for States and Frontier Regions Division, Rs 220 million for Statistics Division and Rs 315 million for Textile Industry Division.

Similarly, Rs 10.658 billion for Planning and Development Division, Rs 50 million for Petroleum and Natural Resources Division, Rs 316 million for Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Rs 6.259 billion for Interior Division, Rs 927.1 million for Information Technology and Telecom Division have been allocated.

The government has allocated Rs 3.780 billion for Housing and Works Division, Rs 18.49 billion for Higher Education Commission (HEC); Rs 779.8 million for Industries division, Rs 78 million for Human Right Division, Rs 492.8 million for Information and Broadcasting Division, Rs 29.59 billion for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan, Rs 2.36 billion for Law and Justice Division, Rs 326 million for Narcotics Control Division. 

For Corporations, the government has allocated Rs 51.443 billion for WAPDA (Power) and Rs 63.038 billion for National Highway Authority. For Special Programmes, the government has allocated Rs 5 billion. Allocation in the PSDP 2011-12 for ERRA is Rs 10 billion.
