ISLAMABAD -  The government has allocated Rs 30,964.894 million for ongoing and new projects of the Pakistan Railways (PR).According to the budgetary document issued here on Wednesday, out of the total allocation, Rs 30,859.524 million has been earmarked for ongoing schemes and Rs 105.370 million for new schemes. For ongoing schemes, Rs 1,965.303m has been allocated for doubling of track from Khanewal to Raiwind and Rs 500m for mechanization of track maintenance. Similarly Rs 750m has been allocated for procurement/manufacture of 75 new D.E locos and Rs 400m for procurement of 150 D.E locomotives. Rs 1,230 million has been earmarked for procurement of 500 high capacity bogies, wagons and 40 powers vans. About Rs 10,700m has been earmarked for procurement/manufacture of 50 diesel electric locomotives and Rs 31,000 million for rehabilitation of 27 HGMU-3-Class diesel electric locomotives. Similarly Rs 700 million has been allocated for rehabilitation of railway assets damaged during riots of December 27-28, 2007 and Rs 900 million for rehabilitation of rolling stock and track.

 Rs 800 million has been earmarked for replacement of metal sleepers and track renewal on Lodhran-Shahdra section.

Similarly Rs 1,000 has been allocated for revival of Karachi circular railways modern commuter system.

Meanwhile for new projects, the government has allocated Rs 40 million for construction of an underpass bridge at KM 1116-69 near class-II level crossing No 148 between Renala Khurd Habibabad station on Lahore-Sahiwal section and Rs 25 million each for improvement of Hassan Abdal railways section and Narowal railway station.
