Lahore - Caretaker Chief Minister Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi will fly to Islamabad on Wednesday (today) with a list of over 100 officers to be transferred, sources in the CM Office confided to The Nation.  The officers have been serving in Punjab on key positions for many years. And the caretaker government wants to transfer them for fair and free elections. All transfers made by the outgoing government would be reversed, the sources said.  “Both political and bureaucratic circles criticised the transfers and postings of officers. The ECP had stopped the provincial government from transferring officers,” said the source.

Though, the sources refused to disclose the names of the officers, they said that only officers with least political background like federal secretary Yunus Dhaga will be posted chief secretary and police chief.

Moreover, the Election Commission of Pakistan has directed the federal government to post chief secretaries and police chiefs in all provinces.

The new chief secretary (CS) Punjab will be posted on Wednesday after the federal caretaker cabinet approves names of the top administrative boss. Moreover, Inspector General of Punjab Police will be replaced. Both CS Zahid Saeed and IG Arif Nawaz will be directed to report to the Establishment Division. The new CS and IG Punjab will make further changes in their establishments.  Former secretary to CM Imdadullah Bosal and Secretary to CM Office Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi have already gone on leave while many other officers have been posted against key positions in the departments. Secretary for Housing and Urban Development Capt (retd) Khurram Ali Agha was posted secretary to CM Punjab. The caretaker government before posting of the secretary to CM took clearance from the NAB, sources added.  During last general elections, officers from ACs to the chief secretary had been transferred. Officers from other provinces were posted as CS and the IG.

LCWU APPROVES ANNUAL BUGET

The Finance and Planning Committee (F&P) of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) approved annual budget worth Rupees1810 million.

F&P meeting was held that was chaired by the provisional vice chancellor Dr Farkhanda Manzoor. Committee also approved service structure and house requisition for its employees. The fiscal recommendations will be presented in the Syndicate for final approval. VC said that the varsity has increased its Research Promotion Fund which will be used for research projects, conferences, workshops, seminars, travel grant, printing of research journals, publication fee and incentive for research publications. Vice Chancellor added that a few steps have been taken to attract more and more students to become research scholars.

She directed director research to immediately issue research grant for existing research scholars of LCWU.

VC said that with the support of faculty, she would strive hard to bring LCWU among the best universities of the world while her emphasis will be on the academic excellence and research advancement.

VC emphasized to work creatively and help transform students to emerge as even greater forces of societal transformation. She added that the university education is a critical component of human development world-wide. An educated populace is vital in today's world of 21st century, with the convergent impacts of globalization, the increasing importance of knowledge as a main driver of growth and the information and communication revolution.
