ISLAMABAD - Following directives of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, big bosses of Cabinet Division are in a fix as they believe it is an uphill task to complete verification process of degrees of as many as 350,000 employees of the Federal Government. A Cabinet Division official told The Nation on Saturday that verification of degrees of the Federal Government employees was not an easy assignment to be accomplished before April 4. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani asked the Establishment Division to get verified degrees of as many as many as 350,000 Federal Government employees last month. The task was given to the Establishment Division first, however, later the Cabinet Division was directed to do the same. Presently it looks like a pipedream to even collect 350,000 degrees, leave aside verification, as the Cabinet Division has so far not contacted any official of Higher Education Commission (HEC) or issued any kind of directives about modus operandi of the verification process, the official said. He observed that an ideal time for the task would have been at the time when it was done for degrees of lawmakers. When tried to contact, the influential Secretary Cabinet Division was not available for comments. Authorities of HEC were also not available. However, an official confirmed that HEC was yet to receive any directives from the Cabinet Division to initiate verification of degrees. Officials and politicians believe that a prompt action by government is in its own interests to get qualified efficient workforce, which could deliver with professional panache and acumen. Therefore, they said, verification of degrees must be initiated on war footing to fire those having fake degrees.
