LAHORE - The Lahore Development Authority on Saturday imposed major penalty of Compulsory Retirement from service on three sub-engineers (building inspectors) for their involvement in the construction of illegal high rise buildings in the City whereas departmental proceedings against another official have been dropped due to his death. The compulsory retired officials include Muhammad Riaz Akhtar Khokhar, Aamir Rashid and Pervaiz Khurshid Shah whereas Muhammad Farooq has died. High Rise Commission, constituted under the directions of Supreme Court of Pakistan for inspecting the illegal plazas in the City, has recommended proceedings against the above mentioned officials for their involvement in the construction of illegal plazas. Departmental proceedings were initiated against Muhammad Riaz Akhtar Khokhar, Aamir Rashid, Pervaiz Khurshid Shah and Muhammad Farooq, Building Inspector, LDA on account of conniving with owners of several commercial buildings which were constructed without any building plan and on residential plots, to which the accused neither took any action nor reported the said irregularities, have been finalized by the Competent Authority and orders of their compulsory retirement have been issued. LDA sacks two clerks: Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Saturday removed two junior clerks namely Sohail Zafar and Muhammad Jahengir from service on account of not joining a fact-finding inquiry which was being conducted against them on charges of selling precious plots by preparing fake documents of destitute quota. Both the officials were deliberately absent from their duty since February 11, 2009. A show cause notice under PEDA Act 2006 was served upon both officials. To provide them an opportunity of their defence, a notice was also published in the national press on February 11, 2011 with the instructions to the accused to appear before the director administration, LDA. They were directed to submit their defence within seven days to which they failed. The Lahore Development Authority imposed major penalty of removal from service upon both the accused officials.
