ISLAMABAD - Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Ch Nisar Ali Khan would reject the name of Justice (Retd) Deedar Hussain Shah, proposed once again for the slot of chairman National Accountability Bureau by President Asif Ali Zardari, due to the reasons he had already written to Prime Minister when his name was first proposed by the Prime Minister to him as part of the consultation process required for the appointment of Chairman NAB. Sources in Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) informed The Nation that Ch Nisar Ali Khan went to Lahore following the media reports about the writing of letter to him about Justice (Retd) Deedar Hussain Shah by President Asif Ali Zardari, where the party top leadership discussed the whole issue in detail and decided to stand by its principled stand taken earlier. It was also decided that PML -N would not budge an inch from its earlier stand of rejecting the name of Justice (Retd) Deedar Hussain Shah for the slot owing to his political affiliation with the Pakistan Peoples Party, a senior party leader confirmed to The Nation. Leader of Opposition Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, the sources further informed, would clarify his position regarding the allegations being levelled against him by the PPP leaders and the passage of resolution by Sindh Assembly wherein he was particularly targeted. Ch Nisar Ali Khan would also point out that under the NAB Ordinance 1999 and in the light of the Supreme Court of Pakistan verdict in Asfandyar Wali versus State case (PLD 607, 2001) the President of Pakistan could not directly ask Leader of Opposition on the appointment of the chairman NAB and the 'meaningful consultation should be done by the Prime Minister with Leader of Opposition and then a name of a consensus candidate for the slot should be forwarded to the President for notification. The sources in the government informed that actually the letter of President was not meant for seeking his approval to the appointment of Justice (Retd) Deedar Hussain Shah for the slot of chairman NAB, but actually President Zardari had attempted to allay the reservations and apprehensions of the Leader of Opposition towards Deedar. These sources further said that consultation would actually be done by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani with Leader of Opposition Nisar on the subject and definitely it would be within the legal and constitutional ambit. Previously the Leader of Opposition had rejected the name of Justice (Retd) Deedar Hussain Shah for the slot of the Chairman NAB on the grounds that he was declared PPP activist as he had contested two elections from Sindh on PPP ticket and once served as PPP MPA.
