Speaking at the weekly foreign office press briefing today, spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that IAEA chief was on a visit to the country and he expressed confidence in the safety of country’s nuclear assets while visiting the Chashma nuclear plant. She said that Pakistan’s civil nuclear program was being run under the rules and regulations of IAEA .
The spokesperson said there is no scheduled meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the US President Barrack Obama in Hague. However, both can meet on the sidelines of the International Nuclear Security Summit 2014. She further said that UK had invited PM to visit, however no dates have yet been finalized.
Regarding Polio, She said federal and provincial governments are determined to eradicate polio from the country. She said immunization of children against polio relates with Pakistan 's future. She added that Pakistan was well-aware of World Health Organization's concerns. She said despite the security concerns‚ WHO is keen to help Pakistan in overcoming the problem. Replying to a question‚ she said after GSP Plus status‚ there have been positive trends about our trade relations with the European Union.
Regarding EU Ambassador's comments‚ Tasnim Aslam said Pakistan expects from diplomatic community to abide by the norms of internationally recognized diplomatic behavior and not to comment on Pakistan’s internal matters.
She said Pakistan is implementing twenty-seven international conventions to inculcate a culture of respect for human rights. She further said that Pakistan enjoyed good relations with all GCC countries. Regarding granting India MFN status, she said that talks were still in process. The foreign office is not hurdle in Pak-India relations, she concluded.
