LAHORE - More than 18.3 million children below five years will be administered polio drops during three-day campaign starting across Punjab from March 14 as part of the National Immunization Day.

The campaign will be held in 3550 Union Councils in all 36 districts of the province.

All the DCOs and DPOs have been asked to ensure arrangement according to the National Action Plan for polio. Adviser to CM on Health Kh Salman Rafiq said that routine immunization coverage has increased significantly that helped controlling polio in the province. He said that so far no polio case has been reported in 2016.

Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare Ali Jan Khan said that 43,848 teams have been constituted that included 36,848 mobile, 4,340 fixed sites and 2,314 transit teams. He urged the parents to get their children immunised in the campaign.

“Besides mobile teams, the EPI staff at health facilities and fixed sites will be available for polio drops and routine immunization. Instructions have been passed to all EDOs (H) to ensure coverage of every child especially high risk mobile populations,” he added.

The DG Health said that special transit points have been set up on bordering districts with other provinces where children would be immunised. In case of teams not visiting the area, the parents can contact the helpline during campaign days, he added.

Anti-dengue steps at PEF schools: Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has directed the partner schools to adopt anti-dengue steps in their schools, for the safety of students and teachers.

PEF Director, in a circular issued yesterday, directed the schools partnering with the foundation to comply with the instructions of the Punjab Government regarding adaption of anti-dengue measures. The schools should also educate the students about their role in this regard and how they can remain safe from the dengue.

Punjab Education Foundation is fully committed to provide clean and conducive atmosphere to the students in the schools so that they could study in a healthy and congenial atmosphere, the circular further said.
