Federal Minister for Defence, Water and Power Khawaja Asif said that the country’s defence was invincible while the government is taking steps to purge the northern and tribal areas of terrorists through Zarb-e-Azb.

He stated this while addressing a meeting of lawyers held at Sialkot District Bar Association (DBA). He acknowledged the sacrifices and professional capabilities of the Pak Army in curbing terrorism from the country. He said that the government is fully aware of the eternal and external dangers and making hectic efforts to cope with the menace. The government was committed to weeding out terrorism in active cooperation of the people who stand united against terrorism.

Asif vowed that the government would complete the Chin-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) with the active cooperation of all the provinces, saying that there is no hurdle in the way of taking off CPEC project, which would make Pakistan economically strong. Economic stability would help Pakistan end its dependency on the other countries, he added.

He said that the parliament was getting stronger day by day which was a very healthy sign, saying that Pakistan is rapidly moving ahead towards the economic and political stability due to the effective policies of the government. He also hailed the positive and effective role of Pakistani media, saying that it was vibrant media, which played pivotal role in highlighting the national and international issues effectively.

He narrated that all the national institutions including the Pak Army have been playing their important role in upholding the supremacy of the constitution and parliament in the country. He said that the government has effectively reduced the duration of the loadshedding of electricity. He said that it would overcome the menace within the next two years.

He noted said that it has finalised the grand project of 93 kilometre Sialkot-Lahore Motorway and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will lay the foundation stone of the project within the next two months. He said that it would be established between Sialkot and Kala Shah Kaku, which would reduce the travelling time to 65 minutes.

He said that the government was taking keen interest in making Sialkot as a developed district of the country following its global industrial significance. He added that Asian Development Bank (ADB) has started formal working on its recently approved a master plan for the uplift of export-oriented Sialkot city.

The ADB would spend Rs11 billion for improving the water supply, sewerage, sanitation, solid waste and infrastructure development besides putting them on the modern lines, in Sialkot city through Punjab City Improvement & Investment Programme under the supervision of the Punjab government, he detailed. He said that ADB would spend Rs11 billion for providing better, advanced and improved municipal facilities in Sialkot under the master plan.

Meanwhile, he handed over a Rs5 million cheque to District Bar Association (DBA) president for the welfare of lawyers.

Later, he laid the foundation stone of Rs400 million project for the construction of sewerage Naullah between Kotli Behram-Sialkot to China Chowk Sialkot. He said that the construction on the other projects of an underpass and an over head bridge in Sialkot city would also be started soon.
