SIALKOT: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) has caught 19,793 pilferers for stealing electricity worth Rs67.3 million during the last month and arrested 257 accused. Gepco has also got registered separate cases against 41 pilferers during an ongoing campaign against the electricity pilferage launched by the special teams of the Gepco in Gujranwala Division.

According the Gepco officials, the teams recovered Rs45.3 million from these pilferers by issuing the heaving bills during the last month. A collective sum of Rs22 million is still to be recovered.

The officials added that 19,022 electricity pilferers are the domestic consumers, 140 commercial consumers, 210 tube-well consumers and 421 industrial consumers, who were found stealing electricity. On the other side, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested two notorious human traffickers from Chan Da Qila Bypass locality. Qamar and Akram were involved in sending the innocent people abroad especial to the European, African, Middle East countries and the Gulf States illegally after extorting big amounts, said Ch Khalid Anees, the deputy director of FIA Gujranwala Division.

It has also recovered passports, fake official documents of different embassies, fake visa stamps, fake medical certificates and embossing machines from the accused as well. He said that FIA has sent the accused behind the bars after registering separate cases against them. Further investigations are underway.–Staff Reporter
