PESHAWAR - Two miners were killed and 10 others received minor injuries on Saturday as a coalmine collapsed due to blast caused by gas emission in Kurez, Lower Orakzai Agency, authorities told APP.

The rescue team safely rescued 27 miners from the mines whereas operation was underway for the safe recovery of ten other miners.

The ISPR authorities informed that more than 100 army and FC troops have continued operation with the help of heavy machinery and medical support.

The injured have been shifted to Kalaya Hospital in Lower Orakzai and DHQ hospital Kohat, where condition of some of the injured was stated to be critical.

The dead and majority of the injured belonged to Shangla district.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his utmost grief and sorrow over the tragic incident of coalmine collapse in Orakzai Agency.

The prime minister extended condolences to the families of those who became victims of the catastrophe.

The prime minister, who returned from his three-day visit to Saudi Arabia on Saturday, also directed the concerned federal government’s agencies to utilise all available resources for emergency relief and evacuation operations, said a press release of the PM Office Media Wing, released in Islamabad.

Meanwhile KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the incident and directed the authorities to expedite the rescue operation.
