ISLAMABAD - Sri Lankan High Commissioner (HC) Major General (r) Jayanath Lokuketagodage called on Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday and discussed matters pertaining to bilateral cooperation.

He was accompanied by Ms Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, Minister / Head of Chancery of the High Commission of Sri Lanka .

Jayanath said he was pleased to assume responsibilities as a High Commissioner to Pakistan. “Sri Lanka strongly desires to expand its economic cooperation with countries in the region, especially Pakistan and it would be his endeavour to further build up Pak-Sri Lanka contacts,” he added.

Dar, while welcoming the HC, said that all possible support would be extended to him for fortifying Pak-Sri Lanka ties in different fields, particularly in the economic sphere.

Referring to his meetings with his Sri Lankan counterpart recently in Beijing and Davos, the minister told Jayanath that they both discussed advancement in bilateral economic cooperation.

The HC, on the occasion, also referred to the recent visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Sri Lanka , which, he said, ushered new era of cooperation between the two countries. Dar pointed out that both the countries could jointly work to achieve this objective.
