KARAK - Scores of women of tehsil Takht-e-Nusrati took to the streets against disconnection of gas supply from domestic consumers and the women blocked the Indus Highway at Babakhel area for all kinds of traffic for several hours here on Saturday.

Hundreds of women of Dawala and adjacent localities of tehsil Takht-e-Nusrati led by local lady councillors marched to Indus highway at morning against the disconnection of gas connections from domestic consumers by Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) and complained that they were using fire woods for cooking meal.

They further said that the SNGPL was torturing the local people of district Karak from where the oil and gas was being supplied to the rest of the country.

The protestors added that first the company used to supply the gas with low pressure and now disconnected the gas completely which has created a lot of problems for the residents.

They resolved that they would not open the road until they were not heard by some authority to ensure the supply the gas to them.

The traffic remained suspended for hours on both sides of the highway and the passengers suffered a lot.

The district administration remained passive to visit the troubled spot to negotiate with the women and even a low rank official did not bother to visit the protestors.

Later the traffic police made arrangement for the traffic flow through alternate routes and continued the traffic flow after several hours.
