PESHAWAR - Some unknown miscreants blew up Shiekh Mohammadi transmission tower No.331 of 500KV by planting powerful explosive material near Deli Deri Bahre Sepan area on Monday. The incident took place last night at 1:30 am, when the explosive material exploded with big bang. Resultantly the power supply of 132 KV Peshawar Industrial Estate, University, Peshawar Cantt, Peshawar City, Kohat Road, Jamrud, Hayatabad, Kohat and Pabbi Grid Stations was disrupted. The inhabitants of the affected areas suffered a lot during the night as the city plunged into deep darkness and they had also to face fierce heat. Chief Executive PESCO Muhammad Qasim Khan after receiving the information directed the quarters concerned to immediately restore the power supply from alternative sources and after hectic efforts the Wapda technical staff succeeded in restoring the electricity to some of the affected areas through alternative sources. The Wapda technical teams reached the site with all the necessary equipment and material and have started rehabilitation work on a war footing. However, the supply of electricity on a permanent basis will take some time and till then the affected areas will be supplied electricity through alternative sources. It merits mentioning here that PESCO has restored the power supply to some of the affected areas through alternative sources but these cannot bear so much of load, hence the system has become overloaded. As such the PESCO is compelled to undertake the additional Load Management at different intervals in the affected areas, for which PESCO has requested for the cooperation of the public in this regard. In the affected areas all the 11 KV feeders emanate from 132 KV Peshawar Industrial, University, Peshawar Cantt, Peshawar City, Jamrud, Hayatabad, Kohat and Pabbi Grid Stations. Electricity will be provided for one to two hours alternatively. It is still to be known as to who are responsible for this sabotage activity. However, the police have lodged an FIR against the unknown miscreants.
