KARACHI - City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has said that the Washington DC mayor has proposed for declaring Karachi and Washington DC as sister cities. If Karachi was declared than it would be an honour for the people of Pakistan and Karachi while Houston and Karachi have already been declared sister cities. Very soon a delegation from Houston will arrive in Karachi to see investment prospects in the city. Addressing a press conference at nazim secretariat on Monday, he said for the first time Karachi's strategically and geographic importance highlighted globally due to its existence as an important corridor to other routes. He termed his two weeks long US visit much successful as bulk of investment would be expected soon in the metropolis in various sectors including water desalination plant, mass transit project, installation of power plant, transport, IT and other projects. He said that he met number of influential personalities of US including six congressmen, Assistant Secretary Of State Richard Boucher, ambassador of US in UN Zalmay Khalil Zad and others. Kamal said in the current global scenario Karachi's strategically importance emerged and it was highlighted during his recent US tour, where the owners of multiple companies and big business companies interested to invest in the metropolis in different sectors due to the geographically importance of the port city. "Karachi is situated near the Middle East and Central Asia and keeping in view of its importance we were planning to improve the infrastructure of the city. With the current development progress its importance is now globally recognised and his recent tour proved that how much the foreign investors are keen to invest in various sectors," he added. With the hectic efforts of CDGK to launch the massive development work in the city, many reputed companies and business giants of the world are ready to come here and invest in various sectors, he informed. He mentioned that Karachi is not an ordinary city, it is a revenue engine of the country having two ports with all financial hubs situated here. Besides its citizens are moderate and having intellectual capabilities, he said there was no extremism and fundamentalism, which attracted the international investors to come here and flourish their business activities. Kamal said there would be no violation in inviting the investors in the projects as marketing of Karachi was not being done only for this city, but for the whole country as this an industrial hub and gateway to Central Asia and Middle East. "The country is passing through critical phase and we cannot in the position to do further experience therefore, as a city nazim I always ready to work with everyone for the development and betterment of Pakistan," he added.
