Pity the poor

This is with the reference to the Surjani Town, Karachi where approximately 4600 people are being forced to leave their houses by the local housing corporation due to non-payment of loans. The residents of this locality are mostly poor and work as daily-wage labourers. No wonder they are unable to pay the heavy amount of the loan. Their general complaint is that the amount of the loan being asked of them is much more than the actual amount they borrowed. I hope the government will take immediate action in favour of the residents of the Surjani Town after having carefully considered all the aspects of this problem. In this way, these poor people's houses will be saved. -BAKHTAWAR ALI KHAN, Sialkot, via e-mail, April 26.
