A glance at today's game

England v Sri Lanka, Gros Islet England are shaping up as significant challengers for the silverware having qualified for the semi-final of World Twnety20 for the first time. They will face stiff opposition from Sri Lanka on a pitch in Gros Islet which is slightly on the slower side and will suit more to the Sri Lankans. However, England have played good cricket and will fancy their chances. Kevin Pietersen is expected to be back in the side which will give more steel to the batting. Englands only problem remains the form of captain Paul Collingwood who is yet to deliver. Otherwise everyone else is performing well making England a strong contender to win todays game. Englands bowling has been apt but they will be against a quality batting line of Sri Lanka. Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Angelo Mathews have been in dashing form and if Tillakaratne Dilshan, who has had a quiet tournament so far, has his day, England are in for a tough time. Bowling remains a slight worry for Sri Lanka and they might draft in Ajantha Mendis owing to his versatility and experience. Overall a close game can be expected with Sri Lankans being slight favourites given the slow pitch. However, England are playing some very cricket and are equally good. Players to look out for Kevin Pietersen is in tremendous form in this tournament and with him coming in at number three, England have a mighty edge overall Sri Lanka. KP is a destructive hitter and will be required to play a major role with the bat if England are to make it to the final. Angelo Mathews lends stability to the Sri Lankan line up with his all round ability. He can hit the ball a real tonk and can be pretty brisk with his bowling as well making him an ideal package for T20 cricket. Its a do or die game and Mathews need to fire big for Sri Lankans for them to proceed further. Head to head & Conditions A close fought game is expected. The pitch is expected to turn which will bring Ajantha Mendis and other Sri Lankan spinners into play. England have a good overall side which will definitely test Sri Lankans. The expansive outfield at Gros Islet will mean lesser boundaries and more twos and threes.
