It is indeed interesting that despite very poor performance so far, our team has reached the semi finals of the T20 Cricket World Cup. Who says miracles dont happen. Isnt this a miracle? A pity none of our so-called master batsmen gave any notable performance in the matches played so far. A truly seasoned player, they say, gives sustained performance, not once in a blue moon. Among our boys, Umar Akmal has performed just once. His brother has also done the needful just once. Afridi has done well but off the field, in TV and print commercials. His performance on ground has remained less than mediocre. Misbahul Haq has proved a dead weight pulling the team backwards. Every one wonders why was he included at all in the team. Two other liabilities, called Khalid Latif and Hafeez, have not even scored fifty runs between them in the matches they have played so far. The bowlers have done a relatively better job of it. They got the opponents out for 134 but then our batsmen failed to reach even this meager total. Everyday is not Sunday so, keeping in mind their track record, we should not harbour too many hopes about future performance of the team. As the former Australian coach Jeff Lawson, who had also coached the Pakistan team for some time, said recently, The management of cricket in Pakistan is in the hands of idiots. I strongly object to this statement. Idiot is a small word, inadequate in describing the farce called the PBC. -ALLAH BAKHSH DAUDOTA, Sukkar, May 12.
