MIRPUR (AJK) - Furious residents of Mian Muhammad town, a locality of Mirpur here Thursday threatened to blow up the main distribution station and supply lines of Sui gas passing through their town if their demand for early supply of gas to their area was not accepted. The protesting elders from Mian Muhammad town of Mirpur city also announced to continue their token hunger strike for an indefinite period to press the AJK government for early implementation of its plan by signing much-awaited agreement of Rs167 million plan between SNGPL and MDA for supply of Sui gas to the thickly-populated area besides other gas-deprived localities of the city. Addressing a news conference at Kashmir Press Club here Thursday, elders of the area including former councillors Ch Muhammad Ayub, Ch Akhtar Hussain, Ch Abdul Qayyum, Sabir Insari, Muhammad Shafi, Shafiq Butt, Shabir Khokher, Masood Paracha and others declared that since AJK Chief Secretary Shahzad Arbab, during his Wednesday visit to Mirpur, also failed to declare the final date of signing of the agreement between MDA and SNGPL for the supply of sui gas to Mirpur city including Ban Khurama, the representatives of the residents have decided to continue their protest till the acceptance of their demands. The AJK CUJ President Muhammad Ramzan Chughtai was also present on the occasion who also endorsed the declaration about continuation of the protest. They warned the AJK authorities of converting their ongoing token hunger strike into the till-death hunger strike in case of non-acceptance of their demand. They accused Premier Sardar Attique led Muslim Conference government of having been totally failed in resolving the public problems, especially the growing problems confronted by Mirpur people. They charged the AJK government of adopting delaying tactics in this regard. They pointed out that despite passage of over a month, the AJK government could not even manage the signing of a formal agreement between Mirpur Development Authority (MDA) and Sui Natural Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL). They called for immediate signing of the agreement to ensure supply of gas to Mian Muhammad town and rest of the gas-neglected residential areas of Mirpur city.
