LAHORE The City lawyers observed complete strike in connection with the killings of general public including lawyers and workers of different political parties on May 12, 2007 in Karachi, during the restoration of independent judiciary movement, suspended by the dictator Pervez Musharraf. Lawyers on Thursday in Lahore High Court Bar Association general meeting held former President Pervez Musharraf, PML-Q central leader Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain and MQM chief Altaf Hussain responsible for the Karachi mayhem. LHCBA President Ch Asghar Ali Gill, Vice President Mian Muhammad Jahangir, Secretaries Arshad Malik Awan and Muhammad Azam and others attended the meeting. Other lawyers Shafqat Mehmood Chohan, Tayyba Zamir, Malik Munsaf Awan, Muhammad Anwer Ghumman, Allah Buksh Gondal, Muhammad Azhar Saddique, Rai Nawaz Kharral, Ansar Jaspal, Zafar Iqbal, Ahmad Awais and others were also present on the occasion and condemned the killing of innocent people in Karachi. The lawyers alleged that massacre was also controlled by the Governor House as Doctor Ishratul Abad, Arbab Raheem Waseem Ahamd and Babar Gauri on the day of incident were not only providing information to the dictator Pervez Musharraf but also issuing instructions to the killers as well as hooligans in accordance with their plan. The lawyers alleged that MQM through its involvement in the Karachi killings proved itself as enemy of legal fraternity. They further alleged that such continuity of Mshraffs regime had not been ended as such snakes (politicians) were even present amongst the current rulers. The lawyers urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo moto notice of the Karachi killings so that the responsible persons could be taken to task as per law who killed the innocent people in a planned way. LHCBA President and other lawyers paid rich tributes to legal fraternity and people of Karachi who showed their courage for the supremacy of law and the restoration of independent judiciary as well. They also appealed the CJP to take measures for bringing back the looted money to the national exchequer. Lahore Bar Association (LBA) president Shahzad Hassan Sheikh and other representatives condemned the incidents of killings in Karachi and prayed for the departed souls who stood against the law-breakers and even sacrificed their lives for the supremacy of constitution. Most of the litigants returned to their homes while getting new dates for hearing of their cases because their lawyers avoided their appearance before the courts concerned.
