WAZIRABAD - Punjab Food Minister Ch Abdul Ghafoor has said that the Punjab government has allocated Rs8.5 billion for wheat procurement in the province. About 3.5 million tonne of wheat will be procured which may extend up to 4 million tonne Rs25000 million has been paid to banks in the head of interest against the loan taken for the wheat procurement and tractor subsidy during the previous season. He was talking to the newsmen at the resident of PML-N worker Malik Mohammad Shafiq, after visiting the procurement centre of Wazirabad here the other day. Ch Ghafoor said, The Punjab government has taken loan of Rs8.5 billion from the State Bank and the National Bank for the wheat procurement. The government target is 3.5 million tonne, but it can be raised up to 4 million tonne if the need arise, he claimed. He further added that the Punjab government had paid Rs25000 million as interest against the loan taken from banks during the previous season for wheat procurement and tractor subsidy as well. We have procured 2.2 million tonne of wheat so far and gunny bags are being provided to the growers according to the government policy, he said.
