ISLAMABAD - The federal government looks confused over the appointment of the new director general (DG) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), as the Establishment Division late Friday night deferred the implementation of its earlier orders, in which Secretary Narcotics Zafar Abbas Lak and DG FIA Javed Iqbal swapped the positions.
However, the earlier notification would stand there till the issuance of next order, as the federal govt has not withdrawn it.
The reasons for the deferment could not be known from official sources. However, a senior government officer was of the view that the issue had been kept in limbo till the return of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani from the UK visit. The premier is returning to the country today (May 13) after the completion of his foreign tour.
The Establishment Division on Friday had appointed Secretary Narcotics Zafar Abbas Lak, a Grade-21 Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) officer, as the FIA DG, while his predecessor Javed Iqbal, a Grade-22 PSP officer, had been appointed as the secretary narcotics.
The two senior PSP officers will continue working on their previous assignments till the federal government issues a new order in this connection, an Establishment Division official said.
