LAHORE – Like other parts of the globe, International Nurses Day was observed across the country including the City on Saturday with the theme ‘Closing The Gap: From Evidence to Action’ to acclaim the role of nurses in health sector.

The day is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. The International Council of Nurses commemorates this important day each year with the production and distribution of the IND Kit. The kit contains educational and public information materials, for use by nurses everywhere.

Nurses are considered the backbone of any country’s healthcare system, but it is a matter of pity that not enough investment has been made for the promotion of nursing profession or for their professional development.

Like other cities, seminars, workshops and walks were organized both at the government and private levels in Lahore to mark the day. Nurses Associations, Nursing Schools and public sector and private hospitals arranged functions to mark the event.

Nursing School Lahore General Hospital organized a function participated by senior doctors, nurses and nursing students.
