KARACHI - Tension simmered in PIB Colony after a group of unidentified arsonists set alight a house said to be that of the prime accused in the (MQM worker) Mansoor Mukhtiar murder case in Mina Bazaar on Saturday.

Luckily, no loss of life was reported in the incident. Six shops were also gutted in the massive blaze, besides the house, which was located at the ground floor of a building, before the arrival of the Fire Brigade.

According to ASI Rana Ajmal, the arsonists had left the crime site by the time a police party rushed. They, however, opened fire at officials of the Fire Brigade to stop them from their work. “Losses would have been immense, if the shops, being housed by the building, were occupied,” said a senior police official requesting not to be named.

No case was registered till the filing of this report. About a dozen cases have been registered against Magsi over the killings of MQM workers in the PIB Colony Police Station alone.

He has also been placed on the Exit Control List. Although Magsi’s half a dozen companions have been arrested in raids, he is at large since the day Mansoor Mukhtiar was murdered.
