In an election-relating incident, a woman and a teenager were killed while five others sustained injuries in the exchange of fire between two political groups in village Bahomaan on Sunday.

A large number of supporters of Rana Ali Sulaman, a independent candidate who won the PP-168 seat, took out a jubilant procession to celebrate the victory. The procession passing through the village street, halted in front of the house of their rival. They also started dancing and chanting slogans.

The inmates of the house opened fire in the air to disperse them. Some participants of the processions also opened fire in retaliation. As a result, two passers-by namely Memoona Bibi, 35, and teenager Mujahid died instantly. 

However, Ria Riaz, a sub-inspector of police, his wife and three others received bullet injuries.

They were taken to District Headquarters Hospital of Sheikhupura. The winning candidate, Rana Ali Sulaman, reached at the site and condemned the incident. He said, “We should now express tolerance and respect others.”
