Punjab plans to hike taxes on vehicles in coming budget

LAHORE  - Punjab Minister for Excise & Taxation and Finance Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that rates of route permit and fitness certificate of vehicles are being increased to enhance revenue. He said that tax will also be imposed on restaurants of food streets, hotels, guest houses and private educational institutions. He said that tax will also be collected from the owners having more than 12.5 acres of land however, income limit will he enhanced. The Minister said that government will impose a new tax on big houses and luxury items and steps are being taken in this regard. He said that government is making revenue collection system simple besides expanding tax net.
Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman said that public welfare and development projects are completed through collection of taxes and the government will expand tax net for this purpose.
He said that department will evolve a strategy for evaluation of properties. He said that property and other taxes will be deposited online from any part of the province and problems faced by common man will be kept in view at the time of new taxation.
MPA Sheikh Allauddin, Dr. Nadia Aziz, Qamarul Islam as well as secretaries and officers of Finance, E&T, Irrigation, Housing and Agriculture deptts and Chairman Punjab Revenue Authority and Member Board of Revenue attended the meeting.
