LAHORE - Newly appointed Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana has reiterated that he will perform his duties as governor strictly in accordance with the constitution.

“I shall remain within constitutional limits while performing my functions as governor”, he observed while talking to the media after visiting the mausoleum of national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal here on Tuesday. He also laid a floral wreath on the grave.

The Punjab governor also said that establishing the supremacy of the constitution would be his top most priority. He vowed that he would work hard for resolving the issues of the province with the cooperation of the federal government. "Health, education and other basic facilities will be focused," he added.

Governor said that his appointment proved that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif were struggling for provision of equal opportunities of development and elimination of sense of deprivation from the Southern Punjab.

To a question, he said everybody should hold himself accountable and urged to work jointly for the country by keeping trivial differences aside.  He said that Pakistan Army and rangers were struggling for elimination of terrorism and the nation should pray for the security institutions.

Earlier, just after taking over the charge, the governor met each staff member of the Governor House including clerical staff, waiters, gardeners, sweepers and security personnel.  He said that all staffers of the Governor House were like his family members and urged them to work hard in their concerned department, adding that they would enjoy his cooperation during his stay.  He said the Governor's House had its own sanctity and it was a common responsibility of everybody including the Governor to maintain its sanctity.
