KARACHI - A worker of Muttahida Quami Movement was gunned down in North Nazimabad area while a man committed suicide in front of a number of law enforcers in Pak Colony area, here on Tuesday.

According to police, the killing of MQM worker took place near Hyderi Market where at least six armed men riding three motorcycles targeted the victim. As a result, the victim was shot multiple times and died at the spot. His body was later taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was identified as 25-year-old Khurram.  SHO Idress Alam Bangash said that deceased was the worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and was the resident of Liaquatabad, adding that he had arrived in the area for some work when armed motorcyclists targeted and killed him. Bangash said that a passerby, Sohail was also wounded in the attack.

The injured was also admitted to hospital for medical treatment. The officer termed the incident as an act of target killing while further investigation is underway. Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area as commercial activities were also partially suspended; however, extra contingent of law enforcers reached the site to avoid any untoward incident. No case has been registered.

Separately, police failed to stop a man from committing suicide after negotiations at main Golimar Intersection within the remits of Pak Colony police station.

Police said that Suleman Saleem, 30, standing in the middle of the Golimar Chowck carrying a pistol and a bottle of wine shot himself before the police and scores of other spectators. SHO Irfan Asif when contacted said that the police rushed on the spot as being informed about the suspect carrying pistol. Police tried but was unable to convince him. SHO Asif said that it was a risk to approach him as scores of people were standing around. He said that the drunk man warned the people to stay away. He said that despite of all efforts the gunman shot himself. He said that the cause of suicide yet to be ascertain while body has been shifted to hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, at least three suspects were apprehended during an alleged police encounter in the areas of Liaqatabad and Ghareebabad on Tuesday.

The suspects have been identified as Kashif aka Kallu, Irshad Khan and M Babar.

Police sources have also claimed of confiscating weapons and motorcycle from their possession however, search operation is underway to nab their fled accomplices.

On the other hand, Pirabad police raided the drug cartel of a suspect named Khan and recovered huge cache of drugs.
