islamabad - In a major step forward towards investigation on modern lines, Islamabad police have compiled electronic data of around 18,996 criminals concerning the police of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Addressing a press conference here Tuesday, Inspector General Police Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan said that the data containing thumb impression and other details of the criminals concerning the police of the twin cities would help it in tracing them in a shortest possible time as the police presented before media members of three criminal gangs arrested by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Islamabad police.

The SIU has succeeded to bust three inter-provincial gangs involved in kidnapping for ransom, dacoity and robbery incidents besides recovering ransom amount, weapons and stolen items worth millions of rupees from their possession. The IG said that the SIU will have its own independent police station so that it does not face any difficulty in performing its tasks and hoped that SIU will continue work to curb criminal activities.

Tahir Alam Khan said that Minister for Interior Ch. Nisar Ali Khan had directed to constitute SIU in Islamabad police and SP Muhammad Ilyas was assigned task to monitor it. He equipped this unit on modern lines and succeeded to trace those involved in several criminal incidents. These teams succeeded to arrest 12 gangsters of three gangs involved in different dacoity, robbery and other theft incidents in the jurisdiction of federal capital’s sectors G-11, F-11, D-17, Rawal Town, Shahzad Town and PWD Colony.

One person was also killed during these criminal activities, whereas one three-year-old child was kidnapped for ransom by the criminals. IG admitted that the child was recovered after paying amount of ransom to the abductors and added it was done to ensure safe recovery of the minor. He, however, said the police later arrested the culprits and also partially recovered ransom money from them.

Islamabad police chief said one gang busted by SIU was involved in abducting three-year-old child Sheheryar for ransom during dacoity at the house of Fawad Kalim in Sector D-17. An FIR No. 84, dated March 28, 2015 u/s 364A/392 of the PPC was then registered at Police Station Tarnol Islamabad. The nabbed gangsters have been identified as Akhtar Ali son of Faiz Ahmed, resident of district Narowal, Malik Shahbaz son of Muhammad Sadiq, resident of district Nankana, Sagir Kahlid son of Kahlid Massaih, resident of district Sialkot, Naiz-ul-Haq son of Abdul Haq, resident of Tarnol Islamabad, Iftakir Ahmed son of Fida Muhammad, resident of district Rawalpindi, Muhammad Arif son of Fida Muhammad, resident of district Rawalpindi. This gang has confessed to be involved in nine dacoities in various areas and the two members of this gang are also proclaimed offenders in 13 cases.

Tahir Alam Khan said that the other gang busted by the SIU committed dacoity in the house of Mujtaba-ul-Haq Malik located at Bheka Syeddan F-11/4 Islamabad. On resistance, they also killed Sohail Asghar Malik and injured his son Mujtaba-ul-Haq. In this regard, FIR No. 284 dated 27-09-2014 u/s 302/324/460/109/34 of the PPC was registered at PS Shalimar Islamabad. The accused have been identified as Saifullah son of Muhammad Ali, resident of district Peshawar and Tasawar Abbas son of Falak Sher, resident of district Islamabad while police also recovered tools of offence from their possession. They are also involved in the fight other incidents of dacoity.

Likewise, the IG said another dacoit gang was also nabbed and its members have been identified as Muhammad Zulfiqar son of Yaar Muhammad, resident of district Sargodha, Muhammad Farooq son of Muhammad Afzal, resident of district Sargodha, Matloob son of Waryam, resident of district Mandi Bahauddin, Muhammad Bilal son of Muhammad Yar, resident of Islamabad. The accused cut the window grill, entered in the house and made dacoity at gunpoint. Besides this, they were also involved in the road dacoities, the IG said.  Gangsters disclosed about the involvement of 12 incidents of dacoity in Islamabad particularly in the areas of Shahzad Town and Sihala police stations.

A large cache of arms and ammunition and valuables recovered by the SIU was also displayed on the occasion. The complainants in the criminal cases were also invited on the occasion, who were assured that remaining valuables would soon be recovered. The IG also distributed prizes worth Rs800,000 among those cops who worked hard to arrest these gangsters.
