LAHORE - A senior police official who was accused of raping a 15-year-old girl was granted bail by a local court, after he reached a settlement with the victim family yesterday.

A sessions court approved the bail petition of DSP Imran Babar against Rs50,000 surety bond. Previously, the cop was in jail on judicial remand.

During the hearing, the court was informed that both parties had reached a settlement and there was no dispute between them. The accused pleaded the court to accept his bail application. After hearing both sides, the court ordered police to release Imran Babar on bail.

Police had arrested Imran Babar allegedly for raping a 15-year-old girl in Kahna area, after a complaint was filed by the victim’s mother.

DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf had directed the police to ensure investigations on merit.

Babar Jameel, who denies the allegations, told the media: “I am being implicated in this case by my opponents who are in the police department. I had exposed the Punjab Law Minister, IGP, Lahore SP CIA Omar Virk and other senior officers in 2012.

Therefore, I am being victimised,” the DSP said when he was brought to a local court yesterday.
