LAHORE: “The top leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was involved in killing of workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek during Model Town incident in 2014,” a former MPA of Pakistan Awami Tehreek testified before an Anti Terrorism Court.

Fayyaz Warraich, former MPA, appeared before the court to record his statement in Model Town incident. He said  Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and federal ministers had held a meeting with the PAT leaders at a H-Block house of Model Town before the return of Dr Qadri to Pakistan.

Mr. Warraich said the leaders of the ruling PML-N directed the delegation of the PAT to stop Dr Qadri from coming to the country claiming that his presence would worsen the political situation in the country.

He further said said when the PAT delegation responded in negative, the PML-N leaders became furious and announced to crush the movement of the Tehreek (PAT) if Dr Qadri did not delay his return. “We came back to see the unbearable attitude of the high-ups,” he added.

He alleged that the government executed its plan on June 17, 2014 through police and local administration killing and injuring a large number of workers of PAT and Idara Minahajul Quran.

The PAT witness said a Joint Investigation Team made by the government to investigate the incident did not entertain his statement too. After recording his statement, the court put off further hearing until May 16.
