ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Sunday shot down the claims of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif that PTI chairman Imran Khan is being meted out special treatment by the apex court and made it clear that he is not “our blue-eyed boy.”

The chief justice was hearing a suo moto case pertaining to unchecked and illegal construction in the Banigala area, the hacking of trees and the pollution of Rawal Lake.

“Why an impression is being given that the court is meting out special treatment to Imran Khan?,” the chief justice posed a query to Federal Minister for Capital Administration and Development Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, who was present in the courtroom.

He asked the minister to give an explanation over his party leaders’ rhetoric or else he will take action against them.

The CJP further questioned: “Where did the court make Imran Khan its blue-eyed boy. Where did we make concessions to him?” Upon this, the minister denied that the apex court had given any such order.

Justice Saqib Nisar also summoned Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb to turn up to explain statements in this regard.

Babar Awan, the counsel for the PTI chief, questioned if a federal minister can issue such statements.

The PML-N leader further told the bench that the documents submitted by Imran Khan with regard to his Banigala residence couldn’t be verified, to which the CJP said if this is so, a probe should be carried out into the matter.
