LAHORE  - Accepting the challenge of debate offered by the Taliban, Sunni Ittehad Council Muftis said on Tuesday they were ready to advance arguments on the subjects of jihad and martyrdom with representatives of the banned outfit.

The 30 Muftis of Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) asked the Taliban to nominate their clerics and also fix the date and place for debate. In this regard, the Council also established a committee to be headed by Chairman SIC Ulema Board Allama Sharif Rizvi.

The SIC Muftis also declared the statement of JI chief Syed Munawar Hasan against the Quran and Sunnah. They said his statement was tantamount to making mockery of Sharia and martyrdom as denial to accept martyrdom of a martyr was a great sin. They said Munawar defamed and disgraced the concept of martyrdom. They asked the JI chief to apologise on his remarks.

The Muftis include Allama Muhammad Sharif Rizvi, Mufti Muhammad Akbar Rizvi, Allama Hamid Sarfraz, Muhammad Farooq Qadri, Muhammad Shoaib Munir, Muhammad Saeed Rizvi, Muhammad Younis Rizvi, Allama Riaz-ud-Pirzada and others.

Meanwhile, the SIC has also announced to observe November 17 as a solidarity day with Pakistan Army and condemn the statement of JI chief Munawar Hasan against the army. On coming Friday, the clerics belonging to Sunni sect will deliver Friday sermon on the subject of ‘Islamic Concept of Martyrdom’ in about 250,000 mosques across the country.

The SIC also demanded of the chief justice of Pakistan to take suo moto notice on the statement of JI chief Munawar Hasan.

PST SUPPORTS ARMY: Expressing solidarity with Pak Army, Pakistan Sunni Tehreek on Tuesday staged country-wide protests against Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawwar Hassan for deriding the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for Pakistan.

A good number of people from all walks of life including students, traders and lawyers participated in the demos staged in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, Abbotabad, Karachi, Quetta and others.

In Lahore, a demo was staged in front of the Press Club. On the occasion, PST leader Maulana Mujahid Abdul Rasool said that the PST supports the Pak Army’s viewpoint in connection with the shameful statement by the JI head. A treason case should be launched against Munawwar Hassan so that no one could dare to use such words against the army, he opined.

He said that the law enforcement agencies should keep a close watch on the elements expressing such hatred remarks against the army. He said the JI leader had confused the nation and exposed the real face of his party. He said such elements were conspiring against the country. He also said that the political muftis should not issue decrees against the martyrs of Pak Army.

On the occasion, other leaders including Sardar Muhammad Tahir Dogar and Sheikh Muhammad Nawaz Qadri said the martyrs of Pak Army are the real heroes who lost their lives fighting against terrorism.
