A quote originally by Will Durant, the author of the multi-volume world history called “The Story of Civilization” was made famous when Akbar Khan Bugti used it in 1982 as well as right before his death, immortalizing himself forever in the “Balochi cause”.

Balochistan makes up 43% of Pakistan's landmass. It has rich-natural resources with 750 coastlines and a population of less than 10 million, yet it remains the most backward province, when compared to the three remaining provinces. It has the lowest literacy rate according to a report by the United Nations sponsored agencies in Balochistan. Their report further confirms the very obvious fact that Balochistan is very far behind in many categories, such as literacy, and has one of the lowest per capita standings. The Baloch people have already faced five military operations that occurred in the following time periods: 1948, 1958, 1960, 1973-77, and 2005.

The recent news of the return ofself-exiled Baloch Republican Army (BRA) leader BrahumdaghBugti in a couple of months to Pakistan, marking an end of his nine-year exile which had followed the killing of his grandfather, Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, is a positive development for the Balochi people who have suffered for far too long. Hopefully the separatist movement will end soon and peace will prevail in Balochistan for the good of the people.
