SIALKOT-The River Chenab has been facing a great shortage of water as the water level has dropped to only 9,000 cusecs at Head Marala near Sialkot.
However, the normal flow of water should be about 46,000 cusecs at the point during these days, said the irrigation Department officials.
According to the Sialkot-based senior officials of Irrigation Department, the River Chenab is presenting a dried-up look at various spots while the water level is continuously dropping near Head Marala Barrage.
Most of the youngsters were often found while playing cricket on the dried bed of River Chenab near Head Marala-Sialkot. The officials added that the water level has dropped to a great extent in River Chenab.
Meanwhile, the farmers were much perturbed due to water shortage in River Chenab. They said that they were unable to irrigate their fields. The main Marala-Ravi-Link (MR-Link) Canal has already been closed by the Irrigation Department due to water shortage in Chenab.
The main reason behind the water shortage was stated to be the stoppage of water in River Chenab by India towards Pakistan, following the nine years long Indian water aggression.
