ISLAMABAD   -  Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) head Maulana Fazlur Rehman yesterday vowed todefeat the government in and outside the Parliament.

In a meeting here at the JUI-F chief’s residence, the two leaders rejected the uncontrolled inflation in the country.

They pledged to watch the people’s rights and send the government packing to ensure ‘real democracy.’ Former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and PPP central leader Qamar Zaman Kaira accompanied Bilawal during the meeting. The PPP chief inquired about the health of Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Bilawal and Maulana Fazlur Rehman discussed the political situation in the country.

Both the leaders expressed their concern over the rising inflation in the country. A joint strategy on electronic voting machine and accountability laws could lead to further success in Parliament.

Bilawal said that the policies of the government can be thwarted only through the parliament. The recent defeats of the government in the Parliament are major achievements of the opposition.

Later, speaking to journalists, Chairman Bilawal said that the government is being defeated in the Parliament repeatedly.

“The government was forced to run away from the joint session. We also thwarted the conspiracy of EVM and undermining the Election Commission of Pakistan. We hope to defeat every conspiracy in the future,” Bilawal said.

He added: “The political relations of the Bhutto family go back three generations and at the moment Maulana Asad and I are colleagues in the Parliament.”

He said that it was a “courtesy call. We are thankful to Maulana Fazlur Rehman for playing his role and all opposition parties that have jointly defeated the government in the Parliament.”

Replying to a question about Pakistan Democratic Movement, he said that the PDM was “not discussed” in the meeting.
