Traveling through Karachi's streets, the grim reality of the pitiable state of our countrymen dawns upon us. The sight of countless people sleeping on the streets with nowhere to live, clothless children roaming about, starved masses of people thronging the shrines for free food, still more rummaging through trash for anything edible, or recyclable that will earn them a handful of coins, it's all a picture of unending misery. Just goes to show how adversely the inflation is taking its toll on our people. Then, there are the fortunate few who have been bestowed with countless blessings; our own houses to live in, fancy clothes to wear, fridges filled with food and pockets filled with money to spend. It is not unfair to ask these people to donate generously in charity. -HAMNA HANIF, Karachi, via e-mail, September 29.
