Since Benazir's martyrdom, PPP leadership has taken to using her name, parrot fashion, mostly to divert the attention of people from the real problems facing them. They are actually seeking blind support for themselves by exploiting the emotional attachment of people with the Bhutto name and legacy. But this is shortsighted as a policy because it may well harm the party in the long term. If the PPP continues to insist on using the Bhutto name and legacy on every occasion, it will end up diminishing its charm. Repetition and overuse diminishes things, no matter how great, precious, glorious and magical they may be. -ANWAR JALAL, Peshawar, via e-mail, September 28.
