LAHORE - President Pakistan Occupied Kashmir Raja Zulqarnain called on Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif here on Sunday and discussed various matters of mutual interest. President Pakistan Occupied Kashmir while apprising the Chief Minister about the steps taken for the rehabilitation of earthquake affectees said that work for their rehabilitation was going on speedily and priority was being given to the construction of schools and hospitals. The CM informed the AJK President on this occasion about the measures taken for the rapid development of the province. He said that government was paying special attention on the maintenance of law and order, education, health, agriculture, infrastructure as well as social development and other sectors in the province and a comprehensive strategy has been evolved in this regard. He said that effective steps were being taken for the development of agriculture sector and increasing per acre yield through provision of quality seeds and fertilizers and ten thousand tractors are being given through subsidy under Green Tractors Scheme. The CM said that improvement of education sector is the need of the hour for the development of the country and for this purpose Punjab government has taken numerous revolutionary steps. He said that Endowment Fund worth Rs2 billion has been set up for the first time in the history of the province under which stipends would be given to the students obtaining prominent positions in the examinations for getting higher education and such students could not only get education in prestigious institutions of the country but could also go abroad for this purpose. He said that steps are being taken for encouraging students and the teachers showing best performance so that their services could be recognized. He said that not only cash prizes have been given to those teachers whose students have got prominent positions but such students have also been presented guard of honour for the first time in the history of the province. He said that billions of rupees are being spent for making model schools and provision of basic facilities to the educational institutions. Mian Shahbaz Sharif said that Food Support Programme is going on successfully for provision of financial assistance to the poor and deserving persons of the province and lakhs of poor families are benefiting from this programme. He said that Roti is the basic need of the common man and keeping in view this need, Punjab government has ensured provision of Roti at Rs2 throughout the province. He said that special attention is being paid on the construction of roads for smooth flow of traffic and improvement of public transport system. He said that services of Frontier Works Organization are being hired for quality construction of roads. He said that steps are being taken for provision of best medical facilities to the people and free dialysis centers are being set up for the treatment of kidney patients. He said that as chief servant, service to the people is his mission and he will not rest content till the resolution of people's problems. He said that for this purpose, all available resources are being spent for the welfare of the people in a transparent manner. He said that Punjab government would provide all possible resources for the rehabilitation of their Kashmiri brethren affected by earthquake.
