ISLAMABAD - PPP-led coalition government will present a policy statement on country's national security and terrorism during the in-camera joint Parliament sitting that resumes today (Monday). Federal Minister for information Sherry Rehman will present the statement prepared by the government and approved by the President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani after intense consultations with the coalition partners. The statement would follow the question-answer session. Informed sources said the Prime Minister had earlier assigned the task to his Advisor on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik but dropped his name and given the special task to the Information Minister presumably because of political aspects of the national security and the ongoing war against terror. Well-placed political sources Sunday told TheNation that the PPP-led coalition government had accepted the demand of Opposition seeking more enlightenment on political spectrum rather than operational side of the terror war. "The Opposition would act after the government presented the policy statement before the Parliament," PML-N Central Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal said while rejecting the media reports that PML-N had decided to boycott Monday's in-camera proceedings. The sources said PML-N had not taken part in the question and answer session on the second day of the in-camera briefing by the DG MO Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha on the pretext that Opposition was more interested to be enlightened on the political side rather than the operational side of the ongoing war. It was reliably learnt that government had decided to support and mobilise local population against terrorists in Fata and NWFP in line with its three-pronged strategy to tackle the growing menace of terrorism. The coalition government had convened in-camera joint sitting of the Parliament to enlighten the MPs about threats to country's internal security and evolve national consensus and counter-terrorism strategy to tackle the critical challenge of terrorism. During the first two days of the in-camera proceedings, DG MO gave in-depth briefing to the MPs. Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani also attended the in-camera briefing.
