LAHORE - District Coordination Officer (DCO) Lahore Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta has said that 'Model Sunday Bazaars' would be set up across the City to provide maximum relief to the people. He said that initially Islampura, Tajpura Sunday Bazaar and Model Town Sunday bazaar are being given the status of Model Sunday Bazaars and this successful project would be extended to other Sunday bazaars in the City. The DCO claimed this during his visit to Islampura Sunday bazaar, which has been reconstructed on the modern pattern. He also said that the Model Sunday bazaars would not create traffic hurdles for the motorists and smooth flow of traffic would be ensured. The DCO directed the officials to ensure sufficient stocks of fruits and vegetables in the Sunday Bazaars. Meanwhile, vegetables were in short supply while vendors continued over-charging at the Sunday bazaars this week as a great number of customers thronged these makeshift markets, set up across the City to provide cheap food items to the people. The vendors were also witnessed selling low-quality commodities at the Sunday bazaars particularly edible oil, sugar, rice, pulses, surf and tea. However, all the Sunday bazaars were flooded with flour bags as the Punjab government ensured sufficient flour supply in the special bazaars at the fixed price of Rs 410 per 20-kg bag. However, 20-kg flour bags were sold at Rs 415 in the Sunday bazaars. On the other hand, the rates of vegetables also increased by Rs 3 to Rs 10 as compared to the previous week as the supply of fruits and vegetables was not enough to meet the high demand. Most of the vegetables including tomato, onion, potato and cucumber were in short supply at various Sunday bazaars in the afternoon. There was no difference in the price of chicken meat in the open market and Sunday bazaar as it was sold at Rs 145 per-kg in the Sunday bazaars. Moot preparations in final stages The preparations for annual moot of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) at Minar-e-Pakistan from October 24 to 26 have entered in its final phase.
