ISLAMABAD - Professional golfer Shabbir Iqbal from Navy retained his title by winning the 26th President of Pakistan Gold Medal Golf Championship with the score of 203 in a 54 holes competition here at Islamabad Gold Club on Sunday. Defending champion Shabbir Iqbal was eight strokes ahead on the end of day two on Saturday. He maintained his lead on third and final day to lift the trophy. Waheed Baloch claimed second position with 211 score while Muhammad Traiq remained third with 217. The winner did not need to toil hard to maintain lead on the final day and he played his routine strokes to reach at the top in the professionals' competition. Meanwhile, there were tough competitions among the females, as the Ami Qin grabbed the title with gross score of 172 after leaving behind Tahira Nazir with 176 gross score. Shahzadi Gulfam's gross score was 190 and she claimed third position. Shahida Ismail got the top position with the net score of 151 with a single stroke lead, as her challenger Salma remained second with net-152. At the end, chief guest Defance Minister Ahmed Mukhtar distributed the cash awards, prizes and trophies among the winner and runner up players of the championship. Rs.0.5 million has been distributed among the players.
